The musically and visually talented Angela has recently moved here from New Zealand (May 2012). Although she is part Portuguese her Maori Background is ever present throughout her work. The loving mother of 5 learned to weave by watching her mother from the tender age of 10. Her mother sadly passed away when Angela was 15; however she retained the techniques and the passion for weaving.
Angela loves to work with NZ flax (phormium tennax) when freshly picked and creates wonderful woven pieces from them. It is fervently important for Angela to honour Maori traditions and protocols when harvesting flax and caring for the plants. Her body of works range from bouquets including wedding bouquets, table settings, free standing pieces, canvases and picture frames just to name a few.
She is currently starting up her brand “Paikea-Luis designs” which will no doubt be a huge success. Her love for people and the community is conveyed through her gracious attitude towards life and we are thankful to have her as part of the SWHQ team.
