Hunting and Gathering

Christmas Comes Early

Hunting and gathering was the main objective in the early days of the cavemen and also the way of life for the people of Samoa.  I assert much has not changed through history.

It is the way of our human species.  Hunting and gathering may not necessarily be for survival these days as needs and wants have been collapsed through relative subjectivity.  Each individual or nation can interpret needs and wants relative to their circumstances.

“Early bird gets the worm” refers to an attitude of a successful hunter and gatherer.

Early rise – Early return was my objective today.  Back home to weave with the warm sun on my back and face.  Yes!  As close to heavenly bliss as I want to be right now.

My hunting and gathering expedition turned out to be C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S in June.  I pulled myself out of the first shop.  Mentally slapped myself for not distinguishing between “needing” only a few white ribbons for my project and “wanting” the pinks, blues and  even some fluffy wool as well just in case.

Just in case what?…Just in case I come back and they don’t have these beautiful colours again. (Sigh)

Continuing on my way to get a few essentials from the supermarket and whaddya know….DETOUR….I will just have a wee looksy in this shop (another craft shop) just in case they got some different ribbons. Bamm!  Half an hour later and another mental telling off, while still walking out with another 5 small rolls of ribbon. (At least they were small)

Yes, I could have returned the ones I didn’t NEED.  But you don’t understand.  I will NEED them eventually.  It’s still a need.  It’s a future need.

I know I will use these all but BEWARE your hunting and gathering does not become HOARDING.

TIP: Always know what you will do with what ever you have so when the husband asks about it,  you have a purpose and he cannot accuse you (me) of being a hoarder.

I tell my husband that as an artist, my inner creativity should not be stopped from not having what I “NEED”!

Happy Hunting and get your CRAFT on.
